Now that Rick Santorum has bowed out of the Presidential nominating contest, every pundit, columnist and political strategist is looking over the list of Vice Presidential candidates. The Great Mentioner is mentioning every conceivable possibility. The handicapping has begun and just in time for the Triple Crown horse racing season.

I’ve looked over the lists of possibilities and some pundits have so many that they’ll be able to announce later that they called the candidate-winner in April. Larry Sabato, the Director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics and a noted pundit, has no less than 23 possibilities, classified in four tiers with comments for each.

His top tier includes almost everybody’s four possibles: Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, Governor Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Senator Marco Rubio of Florida.
