Syrian UprisingAs the Syrian insurgents look around and see their family members, friends and fellow Syrians being slaughtered by the forces of Bashir al-Assad, they have to be wondering in their heart of hearts, where are the Americans? Why isn’t the sky filled with American planes, protecting us from being killed by our own government?

You see until Barack Obama became President, America was looked upon as the global cavalry, the good guys who wore the white hats. Contrary to popular belief, most believed that the United States would do their best to curb injustice around the world.

But let’s face it, Americans have grown tired of doing it alone, especially after Iraq, Afghanistan and the fiscal meltdown. We carried the load in the First Gulf War. We did it again in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has been expensive in treasure and American lives.

Yet, as we watch our televisions every night, we can’t help feeling that something needs to be done to put a stop to the on-going slaughter of men, women and children in Syria. All they want is a decent life and political freedom.

After all, they watched the United States and its allies destroy the dictatorship of Muammar Qaddafi in Libya, overturn Susan Rice, UN AmbassadorHosni Mubarak in Egypt and assist the Arab Spring.

Now, in their time of need it seems that almost the entire world has turned a deaf ear to their pleas for help; almost all except one country, Turkey. Hamstrung by Russia and China, the United Nations Security Council sits on its hands in New York while Syrians die in Damascus, Aleppo and Homs.

You see liberals love the process but hate taking action. They have spent months in a fruitless attempt to talk the Russians and the Chinese around to their side. The Russians are only interested in preserving their new base in the Mediterranean Sea while the Chinese seem to be as inscrutable as ever.

And the President of the United States?  He is concerned about only one thing. With the remorselessness of a guided missile, Barack Obama is only looking to be reelected. He and his campaign have ignored any issue that will divert the voters from that paramount goal.

While Syrians are being slaughtered on a daily basis, Obama tells audiences that Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are out of Free Syriatouch. Out of touch from what, common decency, national pride and compassion for the downtrodden?

Obama is a “what’s in it for me” politician. If he sees no return for himself, he makes no effort. In the case of Syria, he sees no profit in it for his reelection efforts. Is this the kind of President the American people want for the next four years?

You decide.
