The #1 National Security Threat? Part 1

The #1 National Security Threat? Part 1

Who or what is the #1 National Security threat to the United States.

  • China and our indebtedness to them;

  • Russia;

  • The National Debt;

  • Debilitating deficits due to lack of fiscal discipline;

  • The threat of a nuclear Iran;

  • Our weak economy.

These are all symptoms of the problem. The problem is Barack Obama and his administration. Here are some of the things that they have done to our country since his inauguration in 2009.

He has traveled the world apologizing for the actions of previous administrations. Many in the center and on the right believe that he has gone way beyond anything previous presidents have said in order to make a break with their predecessors.Meanwhile, the liberal media gone out of their way to defend the President with somewhat tortured logic. There is no doubt that Obama has attempted to differentiate himself from previous presidents. The problem with this approach is that it shows inconsistency in our foreign policy. Obama is a relativist and has contorted our foreign policy to his own particular set of beliefs.

Obama is a terrible decision-maker. His decision for the surge in Afghanistan took months to be finalized. I don’t think that the American people are looking for a snap decision-maker but several weeks was sufficient for that decision. He spent at least a month on the Libyan decision and then after two weeks decided to “lead from the back”. We now have an on-going war of attrition because France and Britain cannot knock out Qaddafi’s forces. Participation by NATO members is dwindling as are their hi-tech bombs. Sooner or later, the United States will have to rejoin the fight when we could have ended it weeks if not months ago.

At the recent G-8 meeting in Deauville, France Obama and President Dmitry Medvedev had lunch and discussed the American installation of missile defenses in Eastern Europe. Russia is concerned that the missile defense system could pose a risk to Russian strategic nuclear forces in the future. It remains to be seen if the Obama administration will provide the proper funding for a robust system or will they use the debt crisis as an excuse to cut the necessary funding.

One of the most serious threats that we face is a nuclear-armed Iran. On June 8th the Rand Corporation predicted that Iran will have nuclear materials for its first bomb in eight weeks. For a number of years both the Bush administration and the Obama administration have touted sanctions as the way to slowing or even stopping Iran’s nuclear program. They obviously have not worked. Who will be under Iran’s gun? Saudi Arabia and Israel are two countries that immediately come to mind. The time has come for direct action. Are we prepared to stop Iran militarily?

Finally, Washington insiders report that Obama was told several months before the raid that killed Osama Bin Laden that we knew where he was. The same sources report that Valerie Jarrett lobbied the President not to kill Bin Laden. It finally took threats from CIA director Leon Panetta and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates to move Obama into approving the mission. Jarrett’s reason: she didn’t want to upset the Muslims and hurt “innocent” Pakistanis.

In my next post I will discuss the financial crisis in America and how it impacts our National Security. Finally, we will finish with how Obama has treated our best ally in the Middle East, Israel.
